Quality control
Techniques ensuring that high quality is maintained through various stages of a process. For example, quality control during image capture might include comparing the scanned image to the original.

Quantization
The artificial forcing of like gray levels to the same gray level as a result of limited tonal resolution in a scanner. Quantization is most often seen in the shadow portion of scanned images.

Quarter tones
Tones between shadow and midtones are known as 3/4 tones and those between highlight and midtones are known as 1/4 tones.

Quartz Date
Some cameras, mostly Point and Shoot cameras, allow the user to imprint a date on each photo in one of the corners. This allows people to go back later and know exactly when each photo was taken. The date is recorded on the negative at the time of exposure and are on the negative. This feature can usually be turned off and on depending on what the user desires. Some also allow pre-selected messages to be placed on a photo as well, such as Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday.
