Development and Developers
If it be wished to have greater contrasts in the negative, the developer is employed in a more concentrated solution, but in this case more potassium bromide is added. For example, grains of potassium bromide are used in preparing the solution, which is diluted with only I to 2 times its volume of water.
Separate Solutions.
I.   Dissolve

Sodium sulphite cryst.... ... ... ... 5 ..
shake until dissolved.
II.   Dissolve
Sodium carbonate ... ... ... ... 5 ozs-
in
Distilled water...............68 ozs.
For use, mix
No. I. ... ... ... ... ... ... 1 part.
No. II....... ... ... ... ... 2 parts.
According to the character of the plates, exposure, etc*, add to every 3 ozs. of the mixed solution 5 to 10 drops of a 10 per cent, solution of potassium bromide.
The Ortol Developer.
I. Water, cold ... ... ... ... ... 10 ozs.
Potassium metabisulphite ... ... ... 35 grs.
Ortol ..................70 ..
II. Water ... ... ... ... ... ... 10 ozs.
The potassium bromide may be omitted in cold weather, or when plates are used which have but little tendency to fog.
